I adore this St. Nicholas book by Tompert. Look how sweet the illustrations are!
However, it doesn’t get used in my anxious-people house because of the following unfortunate spread.

The next book we use every year. We use it in the beginning of third and fourth and on his saint day, May 16.
The drawings are simple and there aren’t too many words per page. The other Brendan book on the market is by Fritz. I haven’t read it, but if it’s anything like all her other books about explorers, it’s got anti-Christian remarks.
This book is different. I found it through Catholic Mosaic. I like having non-traditional saints tossed in.
This last one is new. It’s the only picture book I’ve seen about saint Helena. It’s about her bringing the True Cross to a country and finding that the churches were overrun with serpents so no one had a safe place to pray in front of the holy relic.
I have a special affection for any New World saints. Peter Claver is a wonderful saint from Columbia. He ministered to the slaves coming in on the boats from Africa.
The next book is also on the Catholic Mosaic list. It’s a delicious story about oranges and the miracle of Our Lady of Altagracia.
It’s SO pretty! My kids love it every year.
