If you want a map skill workbook that covers all the bases, this one is great. My son is great with maps, so it’s a little below him but my daughter will find it pretty challenging next year. See the page shot below for a good idea of it. There’s no instructional pages, just work pages (which is fine with us.)
We do most of the work orally, since he is so very auditory. But I suspect next year, with my visual-spatial daughter, there will be a lot more writing, drawing, and (heaven-knows-why-she-does-it) sculpture involved.
