100EZ and Dolch words

mrsperkins-title

100EZ is a great LAUNCHER for people who will read well.  If you have dyslexic readers, 100EZ will NOT CUT IT.

People, ALL PEOPLE, read from visual memory. They read “whole word.” Sounding out is for spelling, or just to get you started so you can grab the context clues. (Phonics should be taught K-12 though, especially if you aren’t doing Latin.) MOST kids MEMORIZE the whole word WHILE they’re learning the phonics. It’s a SIDE EFFECT. Phonics didn’t make reading happen.

However, if your child has poor visual memory or is dyslexic or has language processing issues so the “context” clues don’t work, you’re in for a LONG HAUL. Each word they learn will come through Mama’s sweat and will have slowly chipped away at her sanity. (Hundreds of flashcard repetitions; if your child is really severe, you will need an APP.)

If your child is in this camp, it really, REALLY matters what sight words ARE NOT in your reading program :
